Here is a blog entry I created for my english 4800 class. This was the first time I was ever exposed to any sort of blog. I really enjoyed working on it. It was interesting because for the first time, I was able to view what my other classmates were saying. I even found it a bit therapeutic and never felt judged.  The rest of my blog entries can be found at:

When I was a student, I can barely recall using any technological
resources. I might have had a class where we were able to use computers, but
that was a specific computer class. That was the only place where technology was really used. We never had the luxury to type papers on computers, use smart boards, access blogs, or use flip videos. Technology is starting to become a part of school curriculum. I've been in practicum placements where each student had access to a computer. These computers were not the best of the best, but each student had the opportunity to use them. I find projects to be extremely useful in classrooms, especially for English class. Students are able to use the computers to type long papers. These papers look more professional and prepare students for what needs to be done when entering college. Computers are also useful when researching projects. High School students are required to write research papers in the proper MLA format. Most students will not take the time to go home and research for themselves, at least in the classrooms I have been a part of. Having a computer easily available to individual students allows students to research during class time.

I have also seen that flip videos are being used in the classrooms. These are
typically used with collaborative projects where the students have the option to
choose to do a project in that way. I personally think this is a great idea for
students who enjoy creating and posting videos. It is a creative way for
students to complete a project, interview someone, document a community
activity, etc. I do not think all students should be required to use these
though. It’s hard to get a whole classroom set for individual students
especially in a public school setting. For some students, editing and posting
videos is simply challenging and difficult.

This semester I was even introduced to blogs. These are beneficial not only
to college students, but high school/middle school students as well. Where
computers are easily available, instead of writing in a daily journal, teachers
might have students write in their blogs. This is a fun and creative way for
students to respond to a journal topic or even a place for students to reflect
weekly/biweekly in a certain class. Students can decorate aesthetically pleasing
versions. Sam even introduced us to glogster which is a social network where
people can create graphical posters. I had never seen these until recently, and
I think they are extremely cool. Students would love to create glogs as part of
a project or end of the year assignment.

I read an article called Why Integrate Technology in the Classroom.
It talked about how technology changes the way teachers teach. It gives teachers the opportunity to teach students with their individual needs in mind.
Technology is a great way for teacher to use differentiated instruction.
Teachers should not only use technology in the English classroom, but other
subjects as well
